Kettleworks
Kettleworks was a scheme for the retention and refurbishment of a former kitchenware factory, including historic factory buildings, in the St George’s area of Birmingham’s Jewellert Quarter.

The building makes considerable use of the existing building fabric to provide flexible, affordable, high quality and sustainable office space as well as ground floor mixed uses. The form of the building wraps around a new square which will provide a valuable public open space in this area of the Jewellery Quarter. The square is designed to act as a focal point to the whole St George’s regeneration area, and will be able to be utilised as an events space and accommodate a mix of uses such as cafes, shops and restaurants around its perimeter. Clean, crisp, simple elevations seek to maintain the industrial aesthetic of the area and pay respect to the fine architecture of the retained Victorian buildings, whilst the public square elevations seek a contemporary contrast with their polished ceramic cladding and glazed lift shafts.
As part of the building’s BREEAM Excellent rating, features including low energy and water use, waste recycling, extensive cycle parking and changing facilities, wildlife habitat provision, as well as the reuse of 80% of the building’s structure, are included to make this a highly sustainability building.
